This project, published among the success stories by the European Digital Innovation Hubs network, focused on a feasibility study for a collaborative robotic palletization system aimed at optimizing efficiency, safety, and product quality in end-of-line operations.<\/p><h5><strong>An Added Value: EDIH4Marche\u2019s Test Before Invest Service<\/strong><\/h5><p>Altesia benefited from the <strong>Test Before Invest<\/strong> service offered by EDIH4Marche, a crucial initiative designed to help companies evaluate and experiment with innovative technologies before making a full investment. This service allows businesses to reduce investment risks by offering a preliminary testing phase in controlled environments, such as the i-Labs Industry laboratories. For Altesia, the <strong>Test Before Invest<\/strong> phase was essential for optimizing technology choices and designing a tailored automation system, verifying every aspect in advance to ensure the system met specific production needs.<\/p><h5><strong>Challenges Addressed<\/strong><\/h5><p>The project\u2019s objective was to assess the feasibility of automating the end-of-line palletization process while meeting stringent requirements. Among the primary challenges, it was necessary to develop a system that could:<\/p><ul><li>Support two palletization modes (tight and wide sequence);<\/li><li>Palletize four pallets simultaneously;<\/li><li>Handle boxes of various sizes and weights;<\/li><li>Operate in a limited space while maintaining a high production cycle (400 boxes\/hour);<\/li><li>Use collaborative robots to eliminate the need for safety barriers.<\/li><\/ul><h5><strong>Technological Solutions Implemented<\/strong><\/h5><p>To meet these requirements, the <strong>FANUC CR-35iB collaborative robot<\/strong> was selected, equipped with a <strong>Schunk PHL-40 pneumatic gripper<\/strong>, specifically designed to handle boxes without damaging them. The gripper uses rubber layers to increase grip strength without compromising box integrity.
